14th Apr. 2009 - Mirleft Pt. 1

There is an unwritten rule that a holiday isn't a "proper" holiday until you go to a beach. 2 weeks in this so far wasn't a proper holiday - and that had to be remedied!

First up through we went for a wander round Tiznit. Famous for its Berber Jewellery Souk we had a look - but had no interest in buying. We took in the original Source Bleu and the Mali-esque Minaret - compete with perches to aid the climb to paradise.

Mirleft lies on the atlantic coast just over 40km (or 35mins drive) from Tiznit. A small town it is the centre for half a dozen beaches.

To me it is a Moroccan take on a small north coast Cornish or Devon surf village. We rolled up the piste to THE hotel in town - and after our attempts to knock down their 150CHF or so half-board room fee failed - we dropped back down into and checked out a lower price alternative.

It ticked all the right boxes. From traditional Moroccan furnishings, to bright roof terrace, ultra-friendly staff and of course WiFi - Hotel Abertih.

There is little to do in Mirleft then to soak up the sun, chill out with a drink, and allow the atlantic breeze to take away your troubles - even if I had to field a call from work!!!

The afternoon was taken up exploring the beaches (accessible by Piste) and just destressing from yesterdays long drive. We whiled away an hour on the beach watching the surfers (and dog) enjoying the waves.

We will be joining them tomorrow as we have a days surfing tuition booked!!!! Wish us luck!!!
